This article is actually quite funny considering our plane touched down in Port Harcourt before heading to Abuja (Nigeria's capital).

FENCING of the Port Harcourt International Airport will soon begin, to forestall a repeat of Wednesday's incident, where an Air France aircraft with 196 passengers on board ran into stray cows on the runway of the airport.
Aviation Minister, Mallam Isa Yuguda, announced this in Port Harcourt on Thursday while on a fact-finding mission over the incident. He said, "The Federal Government will do everything possible to carry out the perimeter fencing of the airport before the end of this year.
Yuguda directed that security checks and surveillance at the airport, especially the tarmac, be carried out every 30 minutes instead of hourly basis. A statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the Chief Press Secretary to the Minister, Mike Nwokoro said Yuguda also directed the airport officials to shoot on sight any animal that strays into the airport. He acknowledged the professional competence of the captain of the aircraft in ensuring that it taxied and parked safely without loss of life. Yuguda promised that the Investigation Committee's report would be implemented while any officer found guilty would equally be punished.
It should be noted that there was no damage done to the body of the aircraft except the right side landing gear and tyre.
An eye witness account said the aircraft veered off the runway as a result of impact of the collision before the pilot was able to manouvre it back to the runway.
Seven of the stray cows were killed by the aircraft, forcing the authorities to close the airport for five hours.It took officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) about three hours to round up the surviving cows and clear the runway of debris before the normal flights resumed about 12 noon the same day.
